How do I use 4Backup?
4Backup is simple, and easy to use, once you have a 4Backup account, you will need to login to your account at: http://username.4backup.ask4.com (making sure you replace ‘username’ with your own ask4 username) – from here you will be able to download the software required for 4Backup. If you are unable to get this web-page for any reason then please visit http://portal.ask4.com/4backup – this page should give you a link for the latest version of the software.
Once you have downloaded and installed the software onto your computer you will need to run it. You will then be asked to enter your 4Backup username and password, this will link your computer to your 4Backup account.
The software will then ask you to give your computer a name, this is because you are able to add multiple computers to your 4Backup account, therefore giving each one a relevant name will help when navigating the files that are stored online through the 4Backup web portal.
After this, you are asked to select the folders that you would like 4Backup to backup for you, you just need to put a tick in the box next to whichever folders you would like to backup.
You are also able to easily add folders at a later stage, all that you need to do is right-click on a folder, find the Livedrive option and then select ‘Backup with Livedrive Backup’
4Backup will appear in your system tray (usually found at the bottom right corner of the screen),clicking on this will give you various options;
Detailed Status – this will allow you to see any current files that are being uploaded, as well as any files that are currently in the queue to be uploaded.
Pause Transfers – this will pause any active transfers that you may have running.
Settings – You are able to change various settings from within the 4backup software;
Bandwidth – allows you to choose how much of your bandwidth the software can use, you may want to set this to a percentage of your overall connection speed, this will mean that when 4Backup is backing up your files it won’t have too much of an effect on your connection speed.
Encrypt all file transfers – allows you to upload and download your files over an encrypted connection, helping to maintain the security of your files.
Updates – this will allow you to check for software updates, you should check this occasionally to ensure that you have the most up to date version of the software, as newer versions may be released to fix bugs etc.
