Installing 4TV on your Mac

2. Launch the 4TV Viewer

Once the Video Lan Client is installed you can then watch TV in Safari or any Mozilla based browsers (such as Firefox).

**IMPORTANT** Current Issues Running 4TV on Mac OS X 10.6 or later

There is currently an issue with the VLC plugin which is affecting the latest web browsers under OS X 10.6 or later. This means you cannot watch 4TV through your web browser. We are working as fast as we can to get this problem resolved and are working closely with our own developers and with Video Lan to find a solution. You are likely affected by this if you are using a Mac and see the error stating that no plugin is installed.

There is a temporary workaround for this and whilst  it’s a bit fiddly, we hope it can be a good compromise whilst we get your 4TV service back on track. Please follow the instructions below:

This page allows you to view the 4TV using the VLC viewer manually rather than trying to launch it via the browser.

You will need to select a TV channel to stream from the drop down menu, then click on the ‘Play’ button.

This will then bring up a ‘Port Number’ which will need to be entered into the VLC Media Player.

Open VLC Media Player, click on File, then click on Open Network Stream, now make sure that UDP/RDP is selected and in the port field you will need to enter to port number that is displayed on the 4TV web page, now click on OK.

The TV stream should now play within the VLC Media Player, you must ensure that you keep the web page open whilst watching 4TV and you will also need to use the web page when you wish to change channels, following the same procedure as above.
